Fill ‘er up at the Paris Air Show!
 |
Saturday 23rd | In-flight tankers were in the spotlight at this year’s air show, with EADS showing no less than three of these flying gas stations: an Airbus A310 in Luftwaffe colors, another A310 dedicated to flight tests of a new-generation refueling boom, and above all the first Airbus A330 MRTT (Multi-Role Tanker Transport) ordered by the Royal Australian Air Force. This latter aircraft is similar to the KC-30 being offered by EADS in the competition for the huge U.S. Air Force KC-135 replacement contract.
Companies in the SAFRAN Group supply a number of systems and equipment for the A330 family, starting with the landing gear, thrust reversers and wiring. |
French President Nicolas Sarkozy visits SAFRAN stand at Paris Air Show
 |
Saturday 23rd | Nicolas Sarkozy, the recently elected President of France, visited the Paris Air Show on Saturday afternoon, June 23. He was able to see a number of spectacular flight demonstrations, including the Airbus A380 super-jumbo jet, the Tiger helicopter, Rafale fighter and Falcon 7X business jet, plus a military winching operation from a Puma helicopter.
During his visit to the show he was welcomed to the SAFRAN Group stand by Chief Executive Officer Jean-Paul Béchat. In particular, the French President took a keen interest in the test carried out by Snecma last week on a CFM56 engine using a biofuel.

Transall carries out evacuation exercise
 |
Saturday 23rd | An ill wind – and lots of rain – hit the Paris Air Show yesterday, forcing the cancellation of a demonstration paratrooper drop by the French air force. However it was replaced by an evacuation exercise on the runway at Le Bourget, a mission that Transall crews know very well, especially from their deployments in Africa.
The Transall military transport aircraft, which will eventually be replaced by the Airbus A400M, is fitted with a Messier-Dowty (SAFRAN Group) landing gear, giving it excellent takeoff and landing capabilities on unprepared runways. Snecma is also involved in maintenance of its Rolls-Royce Tyne turboprop engines. |
